Winter Solstice
Event information
Under the Winter Stars: Solstice, Spirits & Bearings
Embrace the chill and step into the dark for an unforgettable night of celestial exploration and self-discovery. This winter solstice, we are turning off the flashlights and turning up our senses as we navigate the longest night of the year.
Here is what’s waiting for you out in the dark:
-
The Winter Solstice & Labyrinth Walk: Mark the turning of the season by walking Labyrinth Armidale. It’s a time to reflect on the year behind us, find your inner calm, and welcome the return of the light.
-
Constellation Hunting: Look up! We’ll map the crisp winter night sky, learning to identify major constellations, trace ancient starlies, and read the cosmos like a map.
-
Night Navigation & Bearings: Put your Scouting skills to the ultimate test. You’ll learn how to trust your compass in darkness, take accurate bearings using the stars, and safely find your way through the shadows.
What to Bring:
-
Warm Layers: Think beanies, gloves, and thick socks—the solstice night is beautiful, but biting!
-
Walking Shoes: Sturdy comfortable walking shoes. You'll need them.
- A Headlamp/Torch: (With a red-light mode if you have one, to protect our night vision).
